1) is a hard one to answer. Whatever we need at the moment is most important.
2) good deal on salt. (everyone buys it for water changes)
3) good selection.

Which brand of salt? We can work out a group buy if you can get enough people interested.
Thanks!

Those are good "general" questions designed to elicit "feel good" responses from past customers and hopefully generate new customers. That's good but, it really doesn't help you become a "better" business.
The best question (IMHO) to ask is, "Is there anything you don't like about our store?" or "How could we improve our business to gain your trust?". Answers to questions like those would allow you to "see" if there are areas you could improve your service which, in time, would bring in more customers improving your bottom line. These are tough questions to ask of your customers and they are tough for your customers to answer but, the answers to these questions are the ones that will truly help you become a better and more successful retailer.
A good business will not only want to offer good products and service but want to ferret out what keeps a potential customer from clicking the "Add to Cart" button.
These are the kind of questions I ask of my customers. You'll be surprised at what they will tell you.

"Is there anything you don't like about our store?" or "How could we improve our business to gain your trust?".
Those are good questions and the first one was asked by us when we asked about "negative feelings " or as you say what you don't like about the store. The only thing I ask is that if you do have negative comments ( again I hope not) we would very much appreciate them but send it to us in a private message and we will gladly respond to your concern. We are a family owned business and we want to build a better website and give you a enjoyable shopping experience along with saving you money!
If you have any ideas on the website please let us know. We are in the process of improving the website and want your input on how it should look and products you want.
THANKS!!!

I don't see that question above but, no matter. I wasn't suggesting that anyone bash or flame you on a public forum. Anyone in that frame of mind should not be allowed on the forum. Only that if someone had a negative feeling and posted it, you'd have a chance to straighten it out by discussion or publicly stating how you would handle it. That way potential customers can get an idea on how you would handle a negative situation. There are so many poorly run E-businesses that one has to hold themselves to a higher standard 100% of the time in order to get repeat business. When people trust you through experience, not only will they come back but, they will tell their friends. That's what you want to happen. The best form of advertising, positive word of mouth. On the opposite side of the same coin is when someone feels cheated or outright screwed, you get negative word of mouth. Here's a recent example of my experience with four purchases from hobbyists...
I like to promote hobbyists growing and fragging corals. I know, every time I buy corals from a "new to me" supplier of fragged corals, I'm taking a chance. Recently, I bought $200 to $300 dollars worth of various soft and hard corals from three different hobbyists ($750 total). All claiming to be experienced fraggers, baggers and shippers. The 3 boxes came overnight just as promised, all shipped from within FL, all arrived on time. That's where the positives end. One box arrived and the temp of the water was 95* F (very poor boxing). The next had corals that were not representative of the sizes I was expecting (tiny) and the third had none of the zoas that I ordered. Conversations with the 3 "hobbyists" led to frustration and more disappointment. My only recourse from this experience was to tell them that I would spread the "word" about their practices. I saved most of the over heated corals, the tiny corals will grow out eventually but, not pleased with the Zoas I received. Like all of life, we live and learn. I hate expensive lessons like these!
On the positive side, I ordered 3 frags of Cespitularia "Blue Xenia" from a "new" supplier (the fourth hobbyist) and she sent 4 frags of the Xenia plus a nice sized frag of bright green Clove polyps. All came in great shape. You win some and you lose some. The losers will pay a dear price for not taking care of their mistakes. I talk to a lot of reefers that buy on line.
I'd end with something like, "The best of luck to you" but, luck has little to do with having a successful business. It takes perseverance, attention to details, knowing the customer is always right, and a host of other qualities centered on integrity.
So I'll just say, "The best of everything to you".
