Welcome to coral forum.
Are you building the whole thing from acrylic, or going to modify something (like a 10g tank, rubbermade container) ?
If it's just a fug, you want an inlet area (most of the time with rubble rock or something to get a calm flow into the next area), next area would be for the live sand/live rock/macro algea, last depending on how it's setup would be a buble trap to an area with the return pump or no buble trap and a simple drain back to a sump.
With a little more info of how you want to set it up I could give a little more detailed help.
