I cant get no flakes every time i do something to get some it usually puts me in the minus so i gave up.

And you can use them in contests to win cool items in monthly/random contests. I won a powerhead mod last month for 64 flakes. LindaC just donated some of her flakes to win one of the schools an awesome invert book for 100 odd flakes. Also you can donate them to other folks like you may in a bank account. More flakes also gains you new abilities on some regions. I'm being vague because its more fun to just find out yourself.
At least it was for me. I just like getting flakes, cause I know it makes what I do more purposeful.

You get them by being a positive and active member on the site, and with more positive activity you gain access to cool things on this site. There are a lot of random stuff I can do now that I couldn't before. It's always fun to notice the addition.
Btw, using the **** (now I'm not sure if you have this feature) is one of the perks of positive activity. Doesn't have anything to do with your flake count though.

I'm sure someone else will add/retract statements if I said something in error/too vague.
I think this post is a tease...but you're posting a lot of quality things, so you should be fine.

You do loose them with inactivity, or when Gotcha plays around with the system and resets them a few times :-P
