Welcome to our members, "2007 Members Thermos Trade" once again brought on by "your one stop Reef forum" http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d92/Jim-Durso-/Coralforumtext.jpg and back by popular demand of our members.
So if your looking to get in on a great way to maybe get some new frags or maybe just get into help out a member get some different Zoa's or mushrooms. Come join us in our little "Help a member Thermos trade".
We are very excited about this and i am sure many of you are as well. here are just some basic guidelines for everyone.
1. Coral Forum cannot be held responsible for any trades including but not limited to, failure to ship, poor shipping, and/or DOA corals.
2. Coral Forum encourages that for thermos trades, soft corals be used. Please only ship lps or sps corals at your own risk!
3. Please plan to ship your frags the first or second week of September with exact shipping dates determined by who you are trading with.
4. You must be an active Coralforum Member This status will be determined by the Administrators.
6.You will contact the person below you when the final list is posted, at this time you can discuses what your shipping if needed. to keep it simple frags of zoa polyps should be around 4 to 6 polyps per frag, shrooms can be 3 to 4 you can send shrooms mounted or unmounted, if your just in this trade to help a member you can ship any # of Zoa's or shrooms or hardy soft leather cuttings. just keep in mind the more you ship free floating in a thermos the more waste and slim coat they will produce and the less chance they will have for survival, shrooms will survive well in free floating water in a thermos, but zoa's should be in it's own frag bag because the toxins they produce, same with leather cuttings. this is why frag #'s should be not to high, because of survival rate to the corals.
7. The last person on the list sends to the first person of course.
8. The deadline for signing up for the trade will be 9-5-07
The latest shipping date we would like to have is no later Then 9-15-07 unless arrangements have been made with the person you are trading
with.
To sign up all you have to do is add your name after this post and on 9-6-07 I will post the final list.
Type of thermos
keep it simple use a smaller type thermos with a plastic liner or stainless. if you can fined them Campbells makes a good size one, to big of thermos might not fit in a flat rate box.
keep in mind if your going to be shipping shrooms free floating in the thermos you might want to find a plastic lined thermos.
and before shipping your thermos to a sure your thermos won't come unscrewed in transit you might want to tape the thermos cap on.

Fragging tips
fragging zoa's to a frag rock is easy normally you can find loose piece on your colony that are still attached to small pieces of rock these can be super glued to your frag rock if not you can normally scrap off the colony a few polyps with a small chisel or knife rock and all because most rock is porous and cuts or breaks easily, then it can be glued to your frag rock. zoa's frags should be frags a day or 2 before shipping, just to give then time to clam down again from being fragged and to help with stressing I'll give them a Iodine drip.
Mushrooms you can chisel rock off the colony to keep them on there mount, or with your finger nail or a sharp exacto knife scrape the foot off the rock. I prefer doing this a few days before shipping to help the shroom to start it's healing before shipped. I just keep my free floating shrooms in a small tupperware container with small holes in the lin on the bottom of my tank waiting shipping.
Leather corals
I'll usually do leathers in a thermos trade because I've found them to be the hardiest, what I'll do is if I don't have any free floating droppings from my colony. I'll go to a V in the colonies branch and just above the bottom of the V snip off the piece I want to frag, then I'll give it a Iodine dip and let it free float in a tupperware container for about 2 to 3 days before shipping.
Hope some of these tips help you out.
