There are a couple unfortunately my computer crashed and I lost thier adress for the 'net. I think the place was called florida pets which will also give you a good amount of BS too, but they are there. The sell manitee grass, turtle grass and one other type I believe as well as a number of clean up critters, sand bed fauna and maco algaes. Great place and I have ordered from them several times in the past, just havent hit them up in about 18 months. If I can locate them before you do I will post the link.

There's not a whole lot of info online about the needs of these plants. What kind of lighting would I need for the shoal grass or manatee grass? I have a 125 gallon aquaium, but would only have the grasses under 1/3 of the aquarium. Does that mean I can buy expensive lighting for just 1/3 of the tank? What type of bulb, etc? Thanks!

Your grass should grow under PC, T5, MH...etc...

the reason i asked why you wanted seagrass, wasnt trying to be nibby ;). because of the needs, for the most part they need good lighting and a mature DSB (deep sand bed 4" to 6")

I agree...that is why there isn't as many that do the sea grass....that is why I asked if you meant macro alage....certain macros will give a good appearance like the shaving brush plant etc...some halimeda...although you have to watch the calcium levels a bit closer...
A DSB isn't needed for these Macro's....
Depending on the depth of the tank...I have seen the grass do fine even under good PC lighting....the t5's work well and of course the MH does great!!!

These types of sea grass would be awesome in an over the tank, refugium. It would be almost like having another display tank in that it could be set up as a biotope and just be used as your refugium to the otherwise unknowing. Adding some crabs, shrimps, sea horses andpipe fish among other things would make for a portentially nice tank and keep that water clean in the display at the same time. I have often tossed around the ide in doing such a set up if I move into a home with "valted" ceiling.
I have also seen one 300 gallon poly tank like the ones used for cattle that cost around 160.00 used in this manor but it was at ground floor level and it was planted with sea grass and mangroves. The guy who had this tank used it as a refugium on two large tanks that he went skimmerless on. It was a pretty impressive set up. He said he got the idea from a guy that posted such a set up on the internet. Having actually seen this tank it looked pretty nice except for the fact you had to veiw it from above to see in it unlike a glass tank. He used a combination of 48 inch dual 40 watt light fitures over most of it alternating with actinic and some 8.00 6500K plant lights from home depot with the exception of two 175 watt halides on one end that he used over a few clams he had in the tank. It made for a pretty interesting set up to say the least...
I agree though in there are much better places to get your clean up critters...but they do have a good selection of grass, mangroves and macro algaes and a few other hard to find things.
