lighting issue for 65 gal.

this bracket is right where the Metal halide is...blocking light. What are my options here. My buddy at the LFS is making brackets out of stainless steel,but i dont like the looks of it and am not sure if its still serving its purpose. any suggestions are welcome!

I wanna cut that peice out! But will it affect my tank in ANY negative way??

I wouldn't recomend cutting anything on the tank like that. We were actually trying to solve the same issue in this post
