Goodevening to all my fellow hobbyist. I am new to the site but not new to the Hobby. In fact, January marked the one year anniversary of the startup of my 29 gallon tank. It has been a most memorable year and am proud to say that all my fish have grown into beautiful specimen. In fact, i starter with a Sergant damsel and a Blue Devil whom i still have. My tank is a good size but have noticed my fish have somewhat outgrown it. i am in the process of buying a bigger tank but need to make some space. For people new to the hobby, I recommend patience. Getting started is not always easy. I have heard horror stories as people simply lose patience and bite more than they can chew. Start slow at first and you wont go wrong.
As far as my tank:
29 gallon eclipse bio wheel set up. (Many people recommended I remove the biowheel but I left it in. The tank has not faced any high Nitrate concentrations. I constantly test my aquarium and have yet to have any problems)
A berlin airlift 60 gallon skimmer. Given the restrictions of the Eclipse setup, i had to resort to an in the tank skimmer. I does a decent to excellent job but my future setup will include a high quality skimmer. But it sure was worth the money I paid. ($30)
I bought a coral power compact upgrade to replace the lighting in my tank. The bulb is rated at 65 watts which is enough to keep a few 0-to low light corals.
Water changes are done every two weeks and have learned that it is wiser to buy water at the fish store than mix your own. tap water caused me to have a lot of hairline algea in my tank.
As far as inhabitants: 2 damsels as mentioned erlier; A maroon clown, a yellow tang and an arabian blueline dottyback. I also have a serpent star, 2 hermits and a bunch of brittle stars that have grown in the tank. I also have other critter stowaways from the live rock. Finally, 2 feather dusters (one grew on its own) 1 chilli sponge and 2 mushrooms.
As you now in this hobby, it becomes addicting. Next up is a 100 gallon aquarium. i will keep you informed.
