I just got a deal on a 75 gallon tank, its dimensions are 48 " long x 20 inches tall x 18 " tall. I think it's an older tank, because it doesn't have a crossbrace in the center of the tank. It has a all glass stand and a perfecto hood. I called both perfecto and all glass and they stated that there should be a sticker on the bottom of the tank. I've checked there and can't find one. I cant get a hold of oceanic and speak to anyone to see how they identify their tanks.

I'm trying to identify the tank, so I can order a top brace for the aquarium through the correct company.

Does anyone have a suggestion, are the tank tops generic, or do each manufacturer use a different thickness of glass.

I'll post one later tonight or tomorrow. To tell the truth, it looks like any generic tank with the black trim. The aquarium stand is an all glass.

Doesn't Oceanic own Perfecto and All-Glass now? The different brands are successive in quality: Oceanic is nicer than AGA is nicer than Perfecto. I'm not sure how long ago the merger happened though, so older tanks may have nothing in common.

I can tell you that I have an old AGA tank in my basement, and it has a very wide, thick glass center brace. I don't know if that helps either.

Well, Conni, thanks for nothing. I'll shut up now.

LOL

The only thing that I know is with an AGA there will be a tag under the plastic on the bottom (between the glass and the plastic) that will say something like assembled by....

I would suggest you just rip off the old plastic piece (carefully) then measure the thickness, and then just try to buy a piece from one of the three, which will, like Conni stated, hit at least 2 birds with one stone because I know AGA and Oceanic have merged.

The other question I have is if I do get a center brace from the company, do I need to do both the top and bottom? I'm guessing a probable yes.

Probably not, but, it might be a route you want to go if you are buying the top piece anyway, just for safety.

My Perfecto tank has a brace in the top and in the bottom. FWIW. Why not just measure the thickness of the glass by looking at one of the sides?

George.... wow... I feel stupid... I didn't even think about that! This week has just been too stressful for me already.

I spoke to all glass rep again, and she told me that the new tanks had switched to a thinner glass (5/16ths) to keep production costs down and as a result, had to put the center braces in for structural soundness. She stated that she started in production and if my tank had thicker glass, it would have been over 14 years old. I measured my glass thickness, on the edge :) and it was 3/8ths, which would indicate the older style of tank. I asked about the center bracing and she told me that it didn't matter, because the tank shouldn't need it, and I couldn't use a new style brace because of the difference in glass thickness. Now all I have to do is figure how to fabricate some type of center brace to support a glass aquarium top for the fluorescent lights I plan to use later.
