I have a JBJ Nano Cube DX that I started my reef adventure with about 6 months ago. It is now time to change the PC bulbs, and would like your input.

It houses two 24w 50/50 PC bulbs...should I replace them with the same 50/50 or should I go with 10,000k, one of each or something else.

I would say just go with 1 10k and 1 actinic. I dont think you will see any different growth patterns or anything. But its really up to you. The way you have it now I bet you dont see a distinct actinic light in the shadow of the 10k, just because there is another to hide that (if you are not following me, ignore this LOL) but with the actinic closer to the front of the glass and the 10k in the socket further back, you will notice (in the shadows cast by the rocks) a distinct actinic line, which might bother you. LOL

If you need more explination let me know, I will try my best to describe it. Maybe I will take a picture of it happening or something.

I was wondering what size the jbj nano cube was, and if you need some ideas, " http://nanocustoms.com/catalog/ " has already modded lights for nano cubes of all sizes

I have observed better actinic coloration when bulbs are seperate, not 50/50s. JMO, though.

Hmmm thats interesting Conni, and I say that because in theory they Actinic level should be exactly the same, because you have the same amout of phosphors between the two 50/50 lights as you do with one full Actinic light. I wonder though if it has to do with what I was talking about in the post above, because having all the Actinic light coming from one close together reigon rather than having it separated just might have a different, more intense coloring effect.

Hmmm, its strange what the human eye can notice, I am sure that those lamps, when receiving the phosphor coating, go through a very specific and very -almost- scientific precess with little error. And yet you can notice it by eye... neat!

I believe I have read somewhere that actinic lighting has no par rating. So would going with two 10k give me more light than having an actinic in there? Perhaps giving me the ability to keep a little more light demanding corals?
