How horrible. That person should be tattooed with something assinine while he is being held under water, and then photographed and shown on the Internet.

Unfortunetely Conni this was an attachment to a supplier's stocklist, so be ready to see them in a LFS near you
I doubt it hurts the fish long term because they shed scales all of the time. However, this must stress them a LOT in the short term and I don't see why someone would do that when you could easily say, "I love you". Why must one freak out a fish to say that?

Bah, out of 1000 fish that get inked in some way over 800 die nearly right away, and most of them do not make it long after...... Plus the dyes do disapear after a while.
Those needles that they use for fish like those are the equivelant of having a pencil shoved in your arm for a tatoo. And as for the ones who are just dyed, like "berry" tetras ect.(no clue if anyone has tried with saltwater fish, probably don't feel the need to) they are put into an acid bath to rid them of their slime coat, dipped in a dye of some sort(the inks they use for all of the fish in question are toxic to them) and then put into some sort of chemically enhanced water that is SUPPOSED to regrow their slime coat. As I mentioned, the dyes don't last forever(ever take a close look at a 'painted'{aka injected} glass fish in a LFS? Most of them you can see the dye starting to fade in patches :( ) Plus the fish don't live as long as their non 'painted' kin.
Fish like those should come with warning labels that scream "I have been abused!!!! Don't buy me!!!!!!"

I hope that the length of relationships that people bring these into has a direct relationship to the length that the lives of these fish have been shortened.
It really is sad. But whats worse, the fact that people will buy them.
Our society needs their wheel alignment adjusted... we keep veering off in the wrong direction!

ALSO most of them either have semi-permanant cases of fin rot/ich, a lot of the times they can't be treated for it :( Here's a couple of links that say a lot more about it.
