a friend of mine had a green bubble coral that wasnt doing well. he gave it to me and it looks fine now but there is algea on the fins where the coral use to be. will the algea inhibit the growth of the coral, will the coral grow back on the fins, or should i go ahead and trim off those pieces?

Without pictures, it's impossible to give a good recommendation as to what you should do. I do know that bubbles can regenerate quite well, so I, personally, would probably not trim the remaining skeleton. I guess just keep an eye on things, and go with your gut.
