I'm in the begining stages of setting up my 125. I have decided to drill the tank for an internal overflow. My question, or maybe I'm just looking for experienced opinions, is should I drill for two internal overflows or just one. My goal is to cut down on all the junk in the tank.

I will have a sump, (not sure what size yet,,that's another thread), under the stand that I just built so my plumbing will travel straight thru the bottom.

Thanks

I had a 125 and had only one overflow box on the tank.....and it worked great...Gave me plenty of water flow to the sump and back.... I had a 40 gal sump/fuge and it worked well too.... Here are some pictures...

You can see the overflow box in the upper left hand corner...

May be a better picture...

Doc, that is exactly what I was looking for, some real world application. With pictures no less. My idea is to place the overflow in the tank corner on the left side. Since it's in tank it will be fairly decent size overflow.

So in your opinion was the 40gal sump about the right size? I have a wet/dry that I just bought and put under my 55gal. I was thinking about putting it under the 125. It's only 20gal or so though.

Can I ask what type lighting you had in it. It looks great!

Oh by the way that tank looks outstanding.

one thing to note, is that if yo'ure going to go with only one over flow at the top, you need to be sure that there is plenty of surface movement. If you don't have enough movement at the top, you will run into an issue I had briefly where you could actually see a film building up on the side that didn't have the over flow. If drilling isn't an issue, I would suggest going with 2 overflows, but as Doc said, the one should suffice.

It won't be a hang on the back type. I will be drilling the tank at the bottom and running the exit and return thru the bottom. The overflow will come from the bottom of the tank to right below the top rim of the tank. The return will be siting on top of the overflow at the surface to help circulate the water as it comes out.

I think a 20 would work...but if you can go bigger I would...It just makes the whole system have more water volume and makes it that much more stable.... The lighting on that tank was 3 175 watt... MH DE 14K....and of course some moon lighting for the night life!!! :)

Outstanding,,I just ordered 3 retro kits (250wat MH's with 15k xm's), from Hellolights. After seeing that tank I think I made the right choice.

Thanks!

The bottom of most Tanks is temperd glass, You will shatter that tank if you drill the bottom, Better to drill the Back glass 3 inches from the bottom, But if you drill the bottom, you been warned.
