I'm trying to set my 125 gal up properly and need some advise on the real world application. I have made contact with hellolights and it was suggested that I run 3 250watt retro kits, electronic ballast, with 20k bulbs under my soon to be built canopy. 600 dollars worth of lights,,,my wifes gonna kill me!! :uzi:

My question is do I really need 3? I read an article somewhere, (might have even been in here, just can't find it), that said the rule was 1 MH per every two foot. But this guy in the artical said that he had used two with good success. I do not want to run VHO's under the hood, just the MH's.

Opinions on two verses three.

What are the dimensions of your tank?

If you only use two, you'll definitely have a darker band through the center of the tank, or the edges will be darker (depending on how you space the lights). The great thing about MH lights is that they are very point-intense. This has a drawback in that they don't spread as much.

The tank is aboutr 6 foot long, 20" deep and 18" wide. I know that the ideal thing would be 3 and may just have to suck it up and do it.

Buy 3 retrofits kits, would be a lot cheaper i think you would definetely hate the gap in the middle.
