Travelling to Dallas

If I find some softies in Dallas, while I"m there for Xmas, and want to bring them back with me...how do you think they'll handle up to the 12 hr. trip? :hohoho:


I'm talking about Xenia and shrooms especially I'm looking for new colors of shrooms and I can't get Xenia here at all! Maybe some zoo's.

The reason I ask is because I've never made a trip with corals before....I have made a trip with piranha's from Ohio to FL but never corals :)

While in Dallas if you get them just buy the ones you want tell them you are driving and they should pack them accordingly and you can pick them up on your way out of town.
If you must pick the up the night before just let the store know. Most corals bought over the internet are packed for at least 24-48 hours. There should not be a problem if you keep the temp constant and acclimitize them right.
If you want Zoos you have to go to Tranquil Scape!!!

Yeah good idea. I wasn't thinking of telling them I'd be travelling, they'll probably seal the bags with oxygen if I tell them that...cool. Thx Richard.

LOL wow you all must have great stores around you? I only knew of one store in Ohio that would seal bags with oxygen! And so far havent seen any O2 tanks at any of the stores here in FL! Anyway jman xenia can be tough to ship from what I hear? survival is on the low side for whatever reason so I am not sure what you chances of survival are for transport either but if you are interested in waiting a little while I am starting some frags of pink (red sea) xenia and providing s+h of course I could help you out with that part. I hear that here in FL it dosent matter where you are at if something is sent in FL to somewhere in FL it all arrives next day? Would keep things cheap I would say?

The bad thing about shipping Xenia is, normally it doesn't fair too well when shipped, that's why my LFS doesn't have it nor will they ever try to order it even on special orders...which pisses me off...I've never kept Xenia before, because of this.

Jared, if the weather is cool, pick up some of those 12 hour handwarmers to pack in the box of corals. I use them when I ship frags overnight in the fall and spring when the temps are unpredictable. They work great.

Yeah I figure I can just have the LFS pack them as if I were shipping them...

I cant believe your store!!! Think I would find a new one! I became a little disguisted with a store here recently and am now happier going elsewhere. Has anyone ever heard that you can not sell coral frags unless you have a lisence? I have never heard that? Just happened to mention to a store owner that I was starting some frags to sell, mind you didnt even ask if she wanted to buy them or anything and she just jumped into fish and wildlife wont allow you to do that lalalalala....which to me means I just started frags of some things she wont keep in her store xenia, gsp, and fragged a few heads of my sun coral, she stated to me once that they are to demanding for her to keep....whatever.....its not much I have going but may help with a little cash to get some things for my tank or school. Anyhow let me know if you dont have any luck with the xenia and want to give shipping a shot......we'll be waiting for the show off pics of the new corals! Merry Christmas all!
