Ok i know i just set up a tank but i am going to set up another,here is what i am going to use:
Filter:Skilter filter 250 maybe 400
Lights:H.O.T aqualight advanced MH
Power head:Power sweep 214
Heater:Theo 50 watt
Substrate:15 lbs of fiji pink live sand
LR:15 lbs of premium fiji or marshal
Tank:10 gal.
With misc. items and all this equipment comes to just below 500$
has anyone personally used any of these things?Especially the skilter filter!Thanks Steven

I like your set up.....I steer clear of the skilters but it may be fine for a 10 gal.....I would probably use a remora HOB and the power heads.... I feel a good skimmer and power heads with water changes would do a better job than a skilter....but that's just me!!!! :)

Power sweeps are junk. Period. They work okay at first (even though I think they run a bit warm), but after a while, they will decrease in output, and stop rotating. It takes daily cleaning to keep them working properly. I know this because I started out in this hobby with two of them. One is now in my basement, and the other I gave away.

I agree with Conie...ditch the powersweeps. The will move for a while then get hung up. More trouble thatn they're worth. Use some Maxi-jets, they are a much better product. The HOT MH may cause some heat issues, so be sure to be prepared to address that issue as it comes up.
