I absolutely love this fish. It is quickly becoming one of my favs with it's personality. It's really fun to watch it perch on the rock, and just kind of hop around. The one I have, i have only had for a few days now but I've been watching him at the LFS. I finally decided to get him when I saw the dealer stick his hand in the water, and the fish just hopped right up onto his hand to sit.
If you're looking for a fish with a ton of personality this is the way to go. I don't know about any compatiablity issue with it either, but it seems to be doing well in my 75 reef. Actually, lol, it's doing the best of any of my fish. I laugh cause I just can't think about that fish without seeing the dopey look it gives me when I walk in. Cracks me up. :)

From what i hear they sometimes like to hide, and often eat small shrimps.

The hiding is true, but it's so cute when they do because they will pop their head around a corner to see if you're still there.

As far as eating shrimp. I feed it those frozen cube shrimp, and it loves it. I also have two pep and one cleaner, and it hasn't messed with them at all. Of course they are almost as big as the fish. lol

I have always wanted a hawkfish, but have avoided them because of the threat to shrimp.

Max Size; 3.5-4 inches

Native Location; South-Southwest Pacific

Tank Size; Minimum for one is 20+ gallons

Food; at least once daily prefering meaty type foods.

Hardiness; very hardy although not quiet as bullet proof as Damsels.

Reef Compatibility; Reef Safe with caution. If you have Feather Dusters, Hermits, Snails, small Crabs and Shrimp do know they are potentially on the menu.

Other Notes; Gorgeous looking fish with usually great personality traits. Generally does well with many non-aggressive fish/Reef Safe fish. The down side is that i may become bellegrant towards some botton feeders, especially those that are more docile and shy in nature. I have occasionall observed these fish knocking Turbo Snails off the glass and snatching them from the shell and dinning on them. They will also sometimes do this to hermits and limpets as well.

HTH's...
