I have two false perc clowns, I have one domino damsel, I have one blue-green chromis.

I would like to add 3 TANGS at the same time so they don't fight.

I would be willing to add a raccoon butterfly or a tear drop butterfly in exchange for one of the tangs.

What 3 would you recommend?

I am looking for three that would get along the best. I just want to add some nice fish to my tank other than the small fish.

Any 3 peaceful fish the size of tangs or butterflies that would get along the best and with the others. I am a bit concerned about the domino. Think he would leave the new ones alone?

The size of the tank is a 90 gallon.

You could not house 3 tangs in a tank that small, most likely one.

I agree that for that size tank, one tang would be max.

That is so strange. I have seen many 90 gallon tanks posted on this site with multiple tangs. Hum???

Any suggestions from anyone on adding bigger fish that what is in the tank to make the tank look like a "tank". I dont want small simple fish in it forever. :)

Well if your looking to add a bigger fish to your tank, since its only 90 gal i would suggest maybe a long nose butterfly(i would watch them though, they tend to pick at corals sometimes)maybe a trigger, since all of your current fish are peacful it may turn out to have a nice personality but triggers do have thier own personalitys,if you are leaning towards a larger angel i might say a a blue girdle, they might be shy but one of the the easier large angles to keep, and if you like tangs for someone who has never kept one before id say a yellow tang,or if you like something bright a harlequin tusk would be nice, and they can be kept with succes with angles, tangs and smaller triggers. But with anlot of the larger fish watch with coral and inverts!
What are the dimensions of your tank.Do you have corals and how much LR do you have?
Oh and i think the domino would probably leave a bigger fish alone.

I have a regal tang and a yellow tang in my 90 gallon tank. I have had them both in there for over a year now. They both do very well together, I had the yellow tang for about 8 months before I introduced the regal tang, I was a bit skeptical on how they would do together, but they are fine, they actually swim around the tank together now. As far as the size of tank and what fish you can keep. I really can't comment on that. I guess I have always been under the impression that tank raised fish more then likely won't grow to the size they do in the wild. But I could be wrong, so far my tangs growth rate is rather slow. They have gotten bigger in the time that I have owned them, but there not growing at an astounding rate either. I guess I figured if they do get to big for the size tank I have, I will sell them to someone who can provide a larger home for them. But for now there both healthy and happy where there at. :) I would say that those two choices would be a good addition. But this is from my personal experiance with them so far.

I'd say that it's likely due to a number of factors...different species, and likely different sizes, both of which will lower agressive tendancies and help establish territories....

I guess I have always been under the impression that tank raised fish more then likely won't grow to the size they do in the wild..

I've never subscribed to this...I think that these animals are genetically programmed to get as big as they can as fast as they can to avoid predation...in the short time span we have had them as pets we haven't bred that out of them yet. Inhibited growth is likely attribured to an inadequate diet compared to what they are used to in the wild, and maybe some water quality issues....give them good water and feed them correctly and they will grow....

In a 90....just one tang will be fine....if you are looking for a centerpiece fish, there are lots out there...consider a rabbitfish....generally reef safe, colorful. and get pretty big....

Myself I have seen just about every, kind of "you can't do that" in a tank.
I'm a firm believe to that a tang in that small of a tank mostly 2 tangs is not the best way to go because they get big. I have seen tangs in tanks that small before get along great for years. but you have to take into consideration there going to grow into adults. and once that happens things Can change and then again maybe not.
the main concern I believe most have is No matter how happy they seem to be that is not a very natural way for them to live there a deep water fish and like to swim fast and freely. that is a happy tang.
it's just not natural for a tang to be in that small of a tank. and if they get to a point where they feel threatened. things can get ugly.
I would love to have bigger fish in my tank. and I know I could probably get away with it but I won't because I know it won't be as happy as I know it could be in it's natural surroundings. but thats just the way I am.
just like after the flood we had here in 96. I had a chocolate Lab that was the best bird dog I ever had he was my best friend for 5 years. but after the flood I lost my home. and he lost his big back yard. and I could only aford a mobile home. and I know theres many that live in a Mobile home with there labs. but I just couldn't do that to Bear my lab. it was the hardest thing to do is give him up. but he lives now on a farm with 2 lakes and 2 female labs. and the guy that has his is great with him.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is most will reply to what's the best and naturalist way to provide for the stock your hosting in your tank.

Well thank you all for your great feed back. So I was given the suggestion of possibly one tang only and suggested a rabbitfish, long nose butterfly, an angle, and a trigger.

What kind of trigger would be good that wouldnt eat the clowns?

I have about 100 lbs of rock in my tank. 75lbs of it is live rock. I have had corals but I dont really carry any now. I did own a tang before and had it with a teardrop butterfly which is my favorite fish. My heater broke and killed off most of my fish.

That was a while back so now I am ready to add some new ones and wanted opinions. Thanks!

I agree with Mike,a fox face lo would be cool.Watch out for its venamous dorsal spines though.
I would say a picasso trigger, just looking out of a book, but you could git a species that is usually calm and it might bite. They have personalities of thier own.So you can never tell.

The Niger trigger tends to be the most peaceful, but it's still a trigger and can be prone to agressive behaviour

Any invert in your system?

Trigers are known to make quick food of shrimps and crabs as well as anenome.

Agree one tang is enough. I broke this rule for a while having 3 in a 75g, but found new homes for two when I upgraded to a 90g.

Do your research before deciding and know what you want to do long term. Here is a helpful link to get some basics on different fish:

Personally I would look at getting rid of the domino as it can get large and very aggressive and may hamper future additions.

This is my 90g:

years ago I had a niger trigger a snowflake eel a lionfish a bicolored blenny. and 2 scooter blennys. that lived in my old 75 gal FO. they got along great for over 2 years no problems. one day I got board with looking at the same old fish. so I added a golden angelfish. the first 10 mintures I put the angelfish in the tank my niger trigger took out the angels insides out after that my scooters came up missing the bicolored blenny, I took out for fear it would be next and my medium sized Volitan and trigger started to fight to. so I wound up having to get my Niger trigger out of that tank. and after that day I don't know if my Niger went mental are what but it never got along again with any other fish in it's tank. it would even try to attack me if I cleaned the tank he was in and he never did before ? and believe me you get hit by one of them they take meat off of you....lol.
just thought I would share how any thing out of the ordenary can trigger a trigger.

yes....many things can trigger territorial behavior in fish...I've watched "peaceful" fish tear eachother to pieces and had aggressive "incompatible" fish live in peace for years, it's always a roll of the dice...

SO.... Name 3 fish then that would be good additions to what is in the tank already and that would get along well. Remember I am looking to add 3 fish that would be larger than the clowns I have and would add some good color to my tank. I am looking for hardy fish and a list of 3 would be nice.

So let's here each person's lists of 3 and if someone lists 3 and you agree on it then let me know so I get an understanding of what would work or not. THANKS!

Just an update..... I have in my tank now a Yellow Tang, a Foxface Rabbitfish, and a Dwarf Cherub Angel. Those are the 3 I added and they add a lot of color to the tank.

So in my 90 gallon tank I have...

1 Yellow Tang
1 Foxface Rabbitfish
1 Domino Damsel
1 Blue-Green Chromis
1 Dwarf Cherub Angel
2 False Percula Clowns

Then seem to really get along well too. They are in there with about 150 snails. :)
