Help choosing lighting

I have a 110 tall tank and I would like set up a reef tank. I have not decided what type of livestock I really want to keep yet (maybe this should really be the first step) anyways I was looking into the t-5 lighting but from what i've read so far the metal halides are more reliable. Any opinions are welcome. Also what brands of lighting are very reliable?

MH lightning has more penetration than T5's, still t5's are a great alternative far better than PC's if you compare against MH.

So would it be wise to combine the different types of lighting. Maybe some MH and PCs or would this be a waste of money?

I would say MH and T5's are a better option.
