hey everyone. my pumps and powerheads have been having issues one by one first my skimmer pump then i just finished finding a defective pump that was causeing a shock. all was good for 3-4 days now there is a small shock again. so i decided to get all new pumps and powerheads. planning on spending 350-400 dollars. its been awhile since i have been in the market for a pump. biggest concern is quietness. this is what i was thinking of getting.
mag supreme 12(return from sump)
mag 9.5(second return from sump)
2-mag 5 (one for in display other for skimmer)
3 (295gph) maxijet powerheads on wavemaker
so what do you think. are there better pumps within the same price range. o yeah the tank is 72x18x20" with 45gal sump. using Miracle Mud. any advice or should i go for this set up.

pump wise that's all I'll use is Mag pumps , they have always treated me good, same with the power heads in my book maxijets for the money you can't go wrong. I'm not to clear on what your using the mud for? (Refuge)?

yeah the mud is for the refugium along with macro algae. i have been looking into the iwaki jap motor pumps. but i hear the fan is pretty loud, do you have any experiance with the iwaki's. also are the mags as quiet as a sedra or eheim?

Well I'm running a 9.5 for my lift pump and it's not loud at all. I've found the harder any pump has to work the louder they are, short runs and 45's instead of 90's helps. I've just always used the Mags because it's a simple designed pump. that's why I like the Maxijets.
and with using mud look out you don't want to much water flow over it are you will have nothing but mud storms.

hey thanks i had a little issue. ii was cleanning my pumps and had them in a big bowl. was carring it into the to wash them out in the sink when my girl friend decided to follow me and ended up stepping on the cord and well i got all new pumps a little sooner than i had planned. ended up getting all sedra's. i am using miracle mud so need the high rate of flow for the mud. i am thinking of changing it to a dsd in the sump. how do you think that would work with just a 1/2" sandbed in the main tank??
