View Full Version : Capensis and emeralds?

Does anyone know if H. capensis can be housed with emerald crabs? I really like emeralds, but if it grew to large, I would send him to my 75 gallon reef. Also, does anyone know anything about a "hogchoker"? Are they invert safe? Small fish compatible? I heard from floridacollector.com, that they are peaceful.

Are you talking about Hippocampus capensis? (there is a sea slug Hypselodoris capensis but I don't believe it is available in aquaria).

Assuming we are talking about the seahorse, I would not put one in with an emerald crab. They should be in a species tank, and I would only venture to put in a docile shrimp at the most (skunk cleaner comes to mind).

Yes the seahorse, and thank you. They should be in a species tank, but i'm putting corals in there with them. Also snails, hermits, shrimp etc.

That is pretty much a species tank! Such means that you do not want to include other animals that will outcompete them. Cleaning crews are generally not aggressive feeders to cause a problem. Do be careful with corals though....stay away from anything that is known for active stinging nematocysts as they could seriously injure the slow moving seahorses that run into them or attempt to hitch on.

And almost forgot, I would not add an emerald crab to this mix....unlike hermits, they can be very aggressive and seahorses are not exactly elusive. :wink:

I have another ?, do you know of any cooling fans for my cap tank? It raises to about 81 because of my PC lighting. I am looking for one that sits on a desk, and is less than $10.

Walmart has a clip-on fan for around $7.

Do you have alink, because all I found was a laptop fan, and it plugs straight into ur comp.

They don't seem to sell them on their website, but if you in and look in the section where they sell all of their floor/window/personal fans, you'll find them.
