Hi there. I found your forum and I am 3 months new to reef keeping. I have 7 fish tanks totalling 550 gallons of water. 5 are freshwater, 1 is saltwater and 1 is reef.

I am learning alot about reef animals. I have anemones (LTA, BTA, Saebae and a Condy). A mated pair of Tomatoe clowns, xenia, pipe organ coral, blastamussa, recordia and rodadactus. Oh, and a foxface. In another tank is our beloved dog face puffer.

Fashioned in our fresh water tanks, we keep 7 Oscars and 1 tank with blushing koi angels and black skirt tetras.

And outside of the tanks, we love our 3 dogs - 2 Dobermans and 1 min-pin.

I have lots to learn and learned alot.

We love to feed our fish and all of our tank animals. Most people tend to say feed very sparingly and particularly the anemones, some people sayd they feed once a week, some never target feed.

I like to offer food every day in small portions.

We are also folks that believe in more frequent water changes. Many people say they change their reef tank water once every 2 weeks, some go longer. I believe in a saltwater tank change 10% every week, or 20% every 2 weeks. Especially since we like to feed.

Our freshwater fish, we feed them everyday. And I do weekly freshwater changes, replacing about 70%.

What are your thoughts?

I look forward to talking to everyone.

I frequent on a daily basis www.oscarspot.com and saltwaterfish.com

I am well known on those sites, very vocal - can't help myself. I am a fish geek. Hi everyone.

Diane

Welcome Diane! It sounds like you are on just the right track with your tanks. I believe that feeding that heavily is only a problem if there are resultant algae or water quality issues. You seem to have all that under control and probably have very happy critters!

Glad you found us.

Diane,
I am new to this forum too, but love it so far, I am sure you will too. As for feeding, I feed the heck out of my tank daily between my fish and spot feeding my non photosynthetic corals, and occasionally all of them. I agree that as long as it doesn't cause water quality problems you are fine. What kind of protein skimmer are you using on your tanks?

WOW, what a very warm welcome - you folks are super nice. I thank you kindly for your kind words - I feel very welcome, thank you.

I hope to help others and share my knowledge and experience, and learn from you all also.

I have found that in this hobby, there is no such thing as "knowing it all" and there is often more than 1 way to deal with a situation or differences of opinion.

I use AquaC Remora protein skimmer on my reef tank. I started out my 90 gallon tank with a Red Sea Berlin skimmer, peice of garbage - hate it and have bought a high end Aqua C to replace the Berlin. But, that has to wait until I swap out his tank stand, which allows the sump to come out only from the top. I ordered an oceanic stand and I will do some custom work on it to remove the front brace between the doors so I can slide a sump in and out as needed.

I started out with a plain black pine stand and I hate it.

I am curious, for those of you have have anemones, how often do you feed your guys? And how long do you have yours?

Thanks againf or such a warm invite - I really appreciate it and you all sound like nice people.

Does anyone know of an anemone forum? I would join that too.

Hi Diane!

When I had an LTA I actally never fed it myself My clarkii clown did it for me. I'd drop a piece of freeze dried krill in the tank and the clown would take the food to the LTA. He would also feed the LTA anything I was feeding the fish. My LTA was a very well fed anemone. :D
