View Full Version : blackish stringy algae

hey guys, i have a 150 FOWLR and its been going since the end of may 05, and just recently it has bloomed this really long stringy black algae in the overflor box some in the sump, and a big patch on the sand bed. what is this stuff? is it harmful? its also now taking over my fuge.



PS whenever i log onto the site, for about the past month, the same exact old posts come up and never any new ones, i have to go to my log in box and click on posts since my last vist to see what everyones been writing. its the oddest thing, can someone help me restore the site to work normally????????? thanks again

Kevc,

It sounds to me like you might have some type of cyano, but I could be wrong. A pic would be really helpful. If thats the case though, you might need to reduce the excess nutrients in your system. This can be due to over feeding, not keeping up with water changes etc... Have you checked your phosphate and nitrate readings???

About the web site, you should check and see if you have cookies enabled on your browser. To check this, you can click on the word Tools on your tool bar, then click on Internet options, then on privacy. Set it to medium and let me know if it works.
