View Full Version : Katrina
With any luck, I won't be on the forum for a little while...I'm waiting for the word to pack my bags and head to the gulf to help clean up. I'll be burning up my vacation at work to do this.
I helped out last year after those hurricanes and those were bad but I don't think I need to elaborate on the severity of Katrina.
I was stationed in Gulfport and still have friends down there that I visit and communicate with frequently so this actually has become somewhat personal. Among the missing is one of my friends and I certainly hope that she turns up ok. She made the decision to stay during the hurricane and I'm sure you all have seen the reports about the tragedies.
I hope that all of you who read this might find it in your hearts to make a small donation of some sort to the relief drive.

Wow! I commend you for what you are doing. If I had the resources to be able to go down and help...I'd be there in a second. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of those in need.

I was watching CNN and Fox news last night and let me tell you the devastation is incredible. I've seen my share of hurricanes over here, but usually we get hit with damage caused by the wind, but since most of the buildings/homes here are concrete damage is not as bad. the kind of flood damage and loss of life associated wth this is beyond words. The fact that it could've been worse is just scary.
Andy my best wishes to you and those like you that have the opportunity to give a hand and help out in a direct matter with that situation.

Just want to add my good wishes to you, Andy. You're doing a great thing and I hope everything turns out okay for both you and your friend down there.
Thanks everyone. I'm not only doing it for my friend but for everyone down there. I can't tear myself away from the tv these days. so why not go help first hand? :S I've cleaned up three hurricanes in the past while I was a Navy SeaBee and this cotastraphe is worse that all 3 of those combined.

go to work every morning with tears, watching this from afar is heart wrenching, and all i hear about from the people around here is complaining about the price of gas..............
like that is such a worry right now
yea...Gas is high all over the country now :( To make it worse, at least two stations in Atlanta are gouging...charging 6 bucks for a gallon!

So far the hardest part for me, which is BS compared to how hard it's for them, is watching all those corpses floating/laying around. I mean this 2005 in the US of America!!! People looking as lost as anybody could be, kids with no diapers, defecating on the shelter's floors because they're afraid to go to be bathroom and being mugged/raped.
Honestly, this looks like a cheap post-apocalyptic movie. It's just frustrating, not to be able to be there and help, the best I could do was give $$ to the Red Cross.
Gas price is just secondary to all the life lost in this.
