hey all,
I want to (in the future) place one dwarf angel in my reef, How can I go abouts doing that? Its 225 gallons but it will be having zoos and cams softies and sps and lps and all kinds of things, the tank will is very big and they would be the very last absolute last thing to go into my tank. so I just need to know if I can stop thier notorious nipping of clams and corals? And also does anyone have them that could give me pointer's. I will either be getting a flame or potter so any help would be muchly apprciated. thanks! :) O yeah and which one do you think would be best?

I don't think you can stop an angel that is prone to nipping at corals/clams/etc. It's more of a personality issue: some do/some don't. I don't even think that keepig them well fed will help that much, because they are active grazers and pick at things whether very hungry or not.

Your best bet is to cross your fingers. . .

yall are fast that was only four minutes lol Ok well have you had any expirence with them? I see them in the pet store in seperate tanks yet I have two large Angels in a 125 gallon tank and they don't harrasse each other a bit. I have a blue girdle and a regal together, but I never see any dwrfs together are they more agressive? If you look at my tank botton on the bottom you will see all the fish in my parents FOWLR 125 g tank. Theres alot and they all manage to live peacefully. Now of course there is no coral but I just would like to know why you can't house more than one in a tank at a time? Thanks for the very speedy response up there!

I can only assume that it's working because the two angelfish in the FO tank are from a different genus. Dwarf angels are all of the same.

i have keep many. i usually get a coral beauty and flame togather. never had issue with aggression. for the corals like already said never know. i had a flame in a 100gal for 4years and he never touched a coral. mostly housed with LPS. i had a open brain with him, he never even looked at funny, but when i tried to add another brain he would go for it right away.
i even tried to add a gorgonian he went for that too. pretty much anything i tried to add, but he never did anything to the existing corals. flames i think are just wierd. churb angels seem to be good boys for the most part. potters though i am not sure about never tried to keep them before. so far though i have had about 4 different flames in the past each for years at a time and none of them ever went after any coral except the one wierd flame i already talked about but didnt meess with the exisiting corals. from watching him i have come to believe they be more territorial then we think, they maybe going after the coral just to keep their area clear. food for thought anyway.

yeah I figured that they would be the most territorial fish in my tank so it'll be added the very last and prolly only one. I don't know much about potter's either just that my pet store has 'em and thiere beautiful. But I really like the flames too!

do you have the big angels in your tank currently. if not you can have two pygme angels no worries in 225gal tank. but the coral will be at risk. i have been lucky for the most part. have had a few different ones go for coral. for me i alwasy try a pygme in a smaller reef tank first. if he is a good boy i might try him the bigger tank. only because in a 225gal tank its soooo hard to catch them if they turn to your corals. i like the flame, its no scientific but when i want one i always look for the ones that come up to you when aproaching the tank. not aggressivily but just not spooked. i think the ones that dart or stay in there hiding spot tend to go for corals more "more protective", the ones that move around fast tend to be more aggressive towards fish. the more kick it ones that are not too scared of you or just pay no attention to you seem to be work out. at lest thats one thing i have noticed. may or may not be ture but works for me.

well that answered a few questions, thanks I think that I will go ahead with one and watch it closly It will be the smallest one that I can find and one that appears non-aggressive. My pet store owner keeps all of his dwarf angels in seperate tanks, one to a tank with other fish in there with them like neon gobies and damsels so i will be able to see how they do
