View Full Version : Ro/DI unit appears to be malfunctioning
When I first got my unit, the water was reading 001 TDS. Day before yesterday, it read 026 and yesterday, 050.
I know that there could be anything contributing here from the unit to my water quality. The DI beads seem to be changing color sorta fast so I'm thinking the membrane is either a)not seated right or b) not working as desired.
The pressure could be low too I suppose. But would that cause the TDS to start reading high?
Any ideas?
Now I'm totaly confused. I had set out a pitcher of the water so I could check it and when I did, it read 008.
Does ro water have to 'settle'?

when you first checked the water , was it water that had been in the RO/DI unit long? as compared to the water that you put in the jug?
The water that tested 26 and 50 was fresh out of the unit. The water that tested 008 had been sitting out for 24 hours. I JUST got the 4 gallon holding tank yesterday and will test the water out of it when I get home today.
On a side note, what range should the TDS be? obviousely 0 as the low end but wht about a high end? Would that vary from house to house?
If it was fresh out of the unit, it was water that has been in the unit since the last time you used it. If you waited a couple of minutes it would've been newly filtered water.
well, the water that sits in the last chamber (the di part), is only about a couple of quarts and I tested a tub of 18 gallons LOL The water should be fine but we will see. When I start getting hair algea I'll know something is wrong HAHA

Can you provide your tds readings from 3 locations to help in the troubleshooting:
1. tap water
2. Post RO/pre DI
3. Post DI
ALso describe how you were taking your water samples for tds testing, including the type of container you were using.

Also could your TDS meter be acting up? I personally dont own one, so I am unsure if they need to be calibrated or anything.
Guys, the last post was nearly a year ago. i've since resolved this LOL thanks though for the replies. ;)
