I have added about 15 pounds of base rock today and thought I'd share the experience. I wanted to raise the LR i had up a little more and try to meet the recommended 1.5 - 2 pounds / gallon of rock.

I have tunnels, caves, ledges, and bridges plus plenty of room for the fish to swim around the back and front.

The pics this time arent as good but are still worth viewing :D
Soon, I will compile all my pics and make the web page I've been wanting. It'll show my progression from day one :D

I like how you setup your rock. But I was wondering is that slate rock I see in the center?

Tonight, I'll try to take a close up of just that rock so maybe it can be identified ;)

Thanks Ron! I hope I can force myself to keep my hands out of the tank for a while. Originaly, I'd planned on some certain spots for corals to reside but when I added the 15 pounds of extra rock, I used those spots.
Then I got to thinking that most corals will probably just end up moving to a more comfortable spot anyway. :D

Some move and some don't...but you will find the right spots I am sure!!!

first off your tank is looking great, and I think that is prolly a good $ saver by putting base rock that will turn into live rock, wish I would of thought of that. In one of pics on your site you have a pic of a red thing in your tank, what is it? Is ot just corraline or sponge or something, just wonderin'?

Im not so sure. I thought it was a long clam when I found it with my shipment but it's not. there is a hole at the end (the end on the left in the pic) and a hole on the top (in reference to the pic). At times, two LOOOONg strings of waste come out of the top hole. If I look in the end hole, I can see in it sort of. It's definetly not a clam though. I will take better pics of it tonight and post them on the ID forum.

Andy I am going to try to find exactly what it is and some info on it. I will look in the id forum for your new post or post here when I get info on it.

It is a red sea squirt. Orange, brown, red and yellow they are filter feeders (intake and discharge holes) and seem to do well in the reef tank. Large ones can be 4 inches tall and 1.5 inch across when feeding. Some days it will look flat, it's not dead. They do that and will swell in size when it feeds again later.
Common on Gulf rock but we also find them on Keys rock as well.

Excellent! That's good to know about him looking flat. He hasn't done it yet but I'm sure he will ;)
