View Full Version : Is this a good deal?
A co-worker is wanting to sell me his used Coralife 20" 55 watt light. It's 50/50 actinic/10K.
What would a fair price be to offer him?

All depends on the age of the unit really
He's wanting 70 for it and it's about 5 years old

You can get a brand new knockoff for less than half that.

That is too high in my book... 5 years old the internal ballast has had a lot of work over those years!!! ....I would pass on that!!!

Agreed, i would pass too.
Well advised ;) I watched him plug it in and it was a hard-starter! Plus the bulbs needed changed....I feel better now!

There are lots of used equipment for tanks in the paper...on sites...etc...if that is what you are looking for...and the pricing many times is dirt cheap!!! Keep your eyes open and you really can get some real deals....on newer used equipment!!!!
What attracted me was the fact that is was nearly perfect to put over my sump :( oh well, I'll keep my eyes open...Cant rush great things :D

You can get a 6500k incandescent bulb at home depot for a few bucks and put over your sump....and get great growth!!!! And use a cheap fixture….
I thought of that. I also thought that might raise the heat. In your experience, does an incandescent raise it much?

Not any more than PC lighting or other bulbs....
good deal then. Right now, I'm using an actinic light and I'm unsure if that's benificial.
