I mixed up about 18 gallons of saltwater the other night and got the salinity to 1.023. I covered it and let two powerheads go. One is 400 gph that is keeping the water moving and one is a PowerHead 201 (not sure of the gph) that I have pointed up at the surface to always break the surface.

It's in my garage which is fairly hot this time of year (like 90 F). And when I checked the water the next day, after 12 hours, the water had a different smell to it...Not a bad odor but more like water that's been left in the heat.

Is this water still safe to use? I uncovered it to let the air flow. I don't have a thermometer in there yet to know exactly HOW hot it is.

I'm thinking that since I have the water moving, it should be ok, right?

Yep, it should be fine as long as it was covered and had the powerheads in it. What kind of container did you use?

Thanks you two :D It's one of those plastic tubs you can get in the 'closet' aisle of WalMart. It's 18 gallons...

The reason we asked is because some of those tubs have chemicals that are not good for storing water in....and some can smell also…some rubber maid stuff is good and I use a BRUTE... garbage can on wheels to do my water changes....

I WAS gonna use an old garbage can but even after cleaning it real good, I didn't feel comfortable using it. I don't want any contaminents.

Right....I would agree...I bought the BRUTE just for the water changes...Not for garbage!!! ;)
