View Full Version : I have a small problem(fish wise)
I am just up greading from a 35 galon tank to a 125 gallon tank but am worried about changing all my fish and coral to it?
what should i do as i have only one large filter in my tank at the moment which has been established for a while now how can i swap my fish/coral in to a new enviroment without causing stress to either fish/coral or me?

i would suggest transfer your corals/fish slowly, i would do your liverock/corals first than add the fish after.
than when your doing your aquascape, you wudnt have to worry about fish getting stressed out...
do you have liverock already in the 125g, cuz if you had 60lbs of liverock in your 30, if still wont be enough for a reef in a 125.

I can tell you I went from a 5 to a 125 and my tank went into a cycle I would try to set up the 125 and let it cycle before you put your coral or fish in it

I have to agree with Exvisor. I recently went from an 80G to a 125G, and had a cycle too. If you can, cycle the new tank without inhabitants to stress.

How much LR do you have now??? And are you getting any more LR???
I upgraded from a 60 and a 125 to a 300 but had 280lbs of Live rock which was of course cured and ready to go... I had no cycle after the switch as the Live Rock was the filter...But if you don't have very much live rock then I would have to agree with the above...cycle first..... :)
I have about 50 lbs of live rock at the moment but am getting about another 100 will this surfice??? and will this lengthen the time to mature?
The new rock is already submerged in another tank will it have to cycle through mine?

Is it already cycled in the tank it is in??? How long would it be out of water if it is cycled??? ...If it is fully cycled and won't be out of water very long you may notice a small cycle but is should be fine other wise!!! The 50 and the 100 your are getting will be plenty and if fully cured and not out of water long you should be fine...
Will be out of water no more than 10 mins through transfere. the tank it is cycled in in not mine it is a friends tank.
He owns a marine aquatics center locally.
But he did tell me providing i got the water quality right salidity and temp, just to swap my main filter over and drop everything in????
He told me it was just like doing a large water change?
