I'm having the DARNDEST time deciding how much rock I wanna buy...I figure I can just go for the gusto and get 40LBS...the shipping and all will cost me 263!!! This works out to 6.59/lb...My LFS charges 20 bucks a pound for rock NOWHERE NEAR the quality...

Is forty pounds too much to slap in my freshly-cycled tank all at once?

If theres no live stock then 40lbs of LR is fine...but remember to monitor ur ammonia, nitrite and nitrate coz ur gonna go a mini cycle.....how big is your tank? from what i read in ur "MY TANK" is 37gal....u said u already have 50-60 lbs of base rock....do u have enough room for anything else besides rocks? just an observation.

Unless I take out some base rock, it WILL be tight. I may just go with 20 pounds because I never thought of that. Thanks for bringing that up.

if i were you, i would take out all your rock and redo your aquascape and mix liverock in with the base rock.

i mean, you dont want for 6 months to 12 months the top 1/2 of your tank being live and the bottom 1/2 being base rock, maybe just mix it together so it blends easier and overtime it will probably look really good.

unless you have much livestock in there, spend a couple hours just designing a cool aquascape you know...

Great idea Tim! I could try the acrylic dowel trick. I read about that and thought it was neat.

www.Liveaguaria.com has some amzing live rock for about $3.66, or $3.33 and they also have a wide selection I think like 7 or 8 different species. I purchased about 325lbs of live rock from them, and it looked amazing. I bought tonga live branch, fiji live, carribean live, and a type of shelf live rock that is flat from them too. You can also get a really good live sand from them too. The live sand is amazing its not like the carib-alive that you would buy at the store in packages it is full of crabs and benificial worms and stuff.

i got my fiji rock from petsolutions, and it was great, beautiful and i paid like $260 ( i think that was shipping cost too ) for 60#. saltwaterfish.com also has great rock, great fish and FREE shipping for anything over $79.
i have had great luck with them and great service, have got ALOT of fish from them as we ban together in this town and order. our lfs just cannot supply us and the prices there are like tripled or more, for instance at swf.com i was looking at a blue headed wrasse, on sale for 9.99, at the lfs the same exact fish was $38. now i believe in supporting these mom and pop stores but............HELLO, its an expensive hobby as it is!!!!!
anyhow, check them out
