I just started getting some green algae building up along the back of my tank and some on one piece of coral. It looks like sploches or dots of green all over. I changed my bulbs about 3 weeks ago. I haven't tested my water in about a week. I'll do it tomorrow but right now I'm at work. I will also check my filter and clean it out.

Should I also do a water change?

My tank has been established for a year, prior to that it was moved from a home where it was running for 2 years.

Would decreasing the number of hours my light is on help stop the growth?

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Welcome to Coral Forum!!!

This sounds like it might be the start of green coralline algae. Scrape it with your fingernail. Is it hard or does it scrape off easily.

Coralline algae is hard and is actually good for your tank.

If it's good for the tank should I just leave it? I was reading that the magarita snail can eat this type of algae do you know if that is true?

Scrape it first. If it's hard, then don't worry about it. If it's soft and removes easily, then there are a lot of different things that you can do.

Established tank Mike. Running 3 years total.

Let us know if it's soft or hard koolzero.

it's hard green algae, it doesn't scrape very easily.
