View Full Version : I saw the most interesting fish today
While at my LFS, I saw this VERY interesting creature, I didn't notice it at first while I was looking at frags but I saw an eye looking at me. On further inspection, it had a body and feet! It then started walking like Spiderman around the tank!
I asked one of the guys there what that was and he told me it was an 'angler'...
I'm sure this is old news to most people here but I have never seen one before. I am DEFINETLY getting one of these as soon as my budget allows and I read up on this creature.
What can you all who know about these tell me? Are they hard to keep? Are they for the beginner?

they arent real hard to keep but they will eat anything they can fit in their mouth. if you want something that looks similar try a walking batfish im pretty sure they are reef safe.
They require excellent water quality, most only eat live food and it is hard to get them to eat frozen. They don't have a very good life span in the home aquarium...most only living less than a year.
But they are great fish, should not be placed with any other fish, unless larger than itself.
Thats sucks:( I was REALLY wanting one. I'll look for that batfish.
2639, check out this angler!

Cool angler!
2369, batfish require a minimum tank size of 200 gallons. They may look all cute when they are babies, but they grow to be rather ugly and quite large as adults. And, they DO grow quickly. Depending upon the species of batfish, they range in size between 17-23" fully grown. Most are extremely picky eater as well.
