not sure on the exact amount, but I'd recogmend adding small portions bidaily (keep testing every other day or so) until you get to the alk. you want, what size tank is it? maybe teaspoons bidaily, btw, nice looking clam, it glow's

Why do you want to take it up so high?? IME it's difficult to keep the alk/ca up at those levels. A constant 3.5meq/L alk and 430ppm ca would be just fine and easier to maintain.

Don't forget about your calcium. At 4.5meq/L you will want your calcium around 450ppm.

evryone at the lfs arent the smartest they said to try to keep it at 3.5-5.0 but i wasnt sure so i came here and yes glow it dose i love it 80.00 but it was the only blue they had. thanks for the knowlege now i will let it alone becaue i tested this morning and the alk is at 3.5 so sounds good.

That clam looks great...i wish i can get one but my lights doesn't permit this.....maybe eventuallly i'll upgrade my lights......Does anyone knows what clams i can keep(if any) on a 192 watts power compact in a 65gal tank?

I would not try any clam until you can upgrade. There are some clams that will do ok under STRONG fluorescents but in general MHs are the best for them.

Nice looking clam. I also agree that your alk doesn't need to be that high. NSW is around 2.5 meq/L. Here's a list of water params and their optimum levels. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-05/rhf/index.htm

On the calcium....levels above 420 ppm are not necessary, they may actually be detrimental....the coral/clam begins to sacrifice tissue growth for skeletal growth....strive for NSW levels and you can't go wrong....

is it normal for clams to secreat a mucus from the around the base of its shell while it moveing. it looks fine better than ever but its on the move over six inches in the past day and a half.
