hi
my toadstool has not had his polyps out for 2 days now, is this normal behavior?? all the small ones seem to be fine, this one just acts ticked about something. he gets big, but does not bloom. they started to come out this am, but when i came home fromwork he is flat again

They could close up for a couple of days and it will expand again. Mine will stay closed up before it sheds its waxy film.

Agreed, it may be getting ready to shed.

The above incident is quiet common and should happen periodically. This is one method the coral uses to shed old skin and at the same time get rid of any algae build up or detris(sp? one day I will learn the correct spelling...Not!). This could last dfor several days before the process is complete at which point said leather should blossom in all its glory!

weird. thats a relief. i am just such a rookie when it comes to corals. soooo tell me. will that "waxy" stuff be a floatin in my water? should i remove it? gosh. this is such a cool creature. now, do they eat through those little polyps? someone said to feed it clam (and my colt coral) by just placing it on it. i really doubt this would work as i am sure my fish will steal it. but anyway, would like to know more. fed it some phyto with an eyedropper the other day.
anyway, thanks for relievin my stress haha

If i'm not mistaken, the coral will 'grab' onto food with it's tentacles making it difficult for any fish to steal it. Plus, won't most coral sting fish that touch it? That is any fish but a clown.
