are there ways to identify these specific types of clowns between male and female. are they based on size also. was wondering. had one for 3 months, really dark. the other one, i just got yesterday, very light. This second one scares very easy as well. ticking me off.

There is no way to sex clownfish. Typically, when paired, the larger of the two becomes the female. When both are the same size, some sparring can occur in establishing the dominant fish that will become the female. In the wild, there is usually a mated pair with several juveniles that never mature. If something happens to the female, the dominant male would become the new female and a juvenile would develop and take the place of the male.

I would recommend Joyce Wilkerson's Clownfishes book for everything you need to know about all species' captive care, breeding, etc.
