View Full Version : Fish Food
Hello Ladies and Gents,
I've just recently added a False Percula Clown to my nano cube after returning my damsel, however the Clown does not accept the flakes or pellets that i give to him. And so I went out and purchased a pack of frozen brine shrimp, and it seems that he will eat some of it (thank god) but he will just stare at the rest, and or spit it out...
Has anyone else had the same problem ?
Also, can this little guy live off of a brine shrimp diet only ?
Any other suggestions/comments are welcomed with open arms
Note: All water parameters up to par..

Unfortunatley brine shrimp are extremely low in nutrients and not a good choice for a main diet. I'd suggest trying to find some Frozen (or fresh) mysis, cyclop-eeze (frozen) or perhaps some zooplankton (Petno sells that), and also try frozen Formula One, or Frozen Formula VHP. Slice off a few slivers while it's frozen and let it sit to thaw for a few minutes beforeoffering it to the clown. It might not be a bad idea to aks the fish store you bought it from what they ahd been feedingit.
Thanks!
So you think this little guy can live off of frozen mysis ? and how do you pronounce it ? I don't want to butcher it at the LFS and get a weird look on their face

MY-siss
Try for a varied diet, for greater nutrition. Start with at least two of the options that SM suggested, and you can add in other variations as you go.
DARNIT!!!
He doesn't want to eat!!!!!
NOOOOOOO!!!!! And I think he is now infected with ICH
Sighhhhhhhhhhhh What the heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What are the chances of it surviving ?
This is also what happened to my Damsel, but luckily he ate the flakes that i gave to him, but this clown refuses to eat! I've now tried Flakes / Pellets / Frozen brine!!!
What should I do !!? :(
Any suggestions or comments are welcomed with open arms

See if you can get Ruby Reef Kick Ich. I have heard that it works in reef tanks, but have no personal experience with it.
Find out what the clown ate at the LFS. In the future, you can ask them to feed a fish before you buy it so that you know if it's eating and what it's eating.
I wish you the best of luck!
Thank you for helping me Conni, Sugar, Andrew..
You guys are too kind :-D
All I can do now, is hope for the best

no problem, what size is your tank? if it's under 20g's, I don't think you'd need a hospital tank because you don't really have any other fish in it and the tank is small enough to dose the water properly
6g, my clownfish is struggling to stay on the gravel at the moment.. I don't know what to do, either end it of its misery by putting it to sleep through the freezer method.. or keep it in their until it passes away.. but i hear if i do the nitrite will spike and almost everything else in the tank will perish

so, you arn't gonna try save it?
Well the clown refuses to eat, so he is basically asking to move on to fish heaven =(
Also, I don't think its ICH anymore, its got white patches on its head.. I've never seen this before its eyes have a gray film over them.. anyone know what this is ?
It floats to the top for air, could this possibly be a fungus of some sort, does anyone have experience with this ?

Sure sounds like, a fungal or bacterial infection. Whatever the case it should be treated out of your display tank, you don't wanna mess the biofilter by adding chems. in the mix.

This sounds like brooklynellosis, or clownfish disease.
