It looks like a tunicate. One hole is for food intake that it filters out of the water and the other is to excrete waste. I dont really know to much about them but I had one as a hitchhiker on my LR but due to lack of understanding, it died...

had this one for 18 months just never thought much about it until now so thought i would ask. are they ok?

Or what i should of said is i have had no problems with this one, are they safe or should i keep an eye on it? or if good how should i preserve it?

I would agree, it looks like a tunicate, if it is and you have kept it this long it should be fine!!! Must be getting what it needs... :)

Jase, when I first recieved mine it was attached to two rocks and was a really bright red and fat with no "dry looking" areas..... the longer I had it it got a dark brownish red color and looked really dry and had shriveled up some. During that time it also got knocked over and dislodged from one of the rocks it was attached to .....Then it died.

As far as I know they are reef safe. I read a small article in one of my books on them.
