In with my xenia that I recieved last week there are quite a few anthelia that are pretty big and doing well. But on one of them the stalk is not looking good. The stalk is very skinny and look like it even may fall off.

Should I snip it off and let if regrow...is that even possible? and attach it somewhere else and see if it comes back?

I just looked a minute ago and it was curled up, not open like it usually is.....

I would continue to observe it as this could be just it needing more time to adjust to its new home...It sounds like it has been open, and that is a good sign...just may be closed up for the holiday!!! :)

It's not the feathery part that doesn't look good, that looks fine. It is the stalk, it is very skinny campared to the others.

It just may need some time to grow...It may be just a smaller stalk...If you could get a picture that would help???

I'll try to do that. They are so close together it might be hard to see.

Understand...I would be willing to try!!! :)

This is the best I could do, you see how it is laying down all the time and the stalk is very skinny, like it will snap off...not like the others

I would leave it alone unless it is bothering you... If it isn't causing any problems with the rest of the coral it will either thicken or not...It looks like it is open??? But it is up to you...I wouldn't worry about it though!!! The rest look very healthy....If you want you can snip it and try to place it somewhere else in the tank…but you never know if it will take to being moved…

I think I will leave it, but what happens when you snip one? Will the area still attached to the rock regrow?

If it does die, will it cause any problems to the others? Disrupt my water quality?

I have never tried that as they always come directly from the basal encrusting mat...Unless you can take the base mat with it I would think it wouldn't work...unless someone has been able to do this I wouldn't think it was a good Idea...

I cant really give a great response to this but are you feeding it something? It could be acclimation but how long has it been in the tank now? what are your parameters? Are you dosing anything? Iodine? I had issues with the very same and sadly to say when it thinned out the stalk it eventually disapeared into nothing and the rest followed. Give some more info also what is water flow like in the area you have it in? I will try to assist more if I can or possibly find someone that can help better in that area. Luck!

I have had it for a week yesterday, all the rest are doing great!
amm -0, trites -0, trates- 0

Not dosing anything or feeding anything.
Gentle water flow.

Anthelia require the same kind of care as do Xenia... they tend to do better in nutrient rich waters...not usually doing so well in an SPS dominated tank...

Well I woke up to find it withered, I do not think it is coming back....
Should I just leave it in the tank, or snip it and remove it?

If it is dead I would snip it...The rest of the colony is still good???
