I just got this xenia, which I thought was a pom pom xenia. The long ones at the top just wave in the current, while the smaller ones seem to pulse. Is it possible I have to different types?

The top one looks more like anthelia to me. At night, anthelia polyps retract into their elongated stalks, xenia just shrinks up a bit.

All of them curl in there stalks and make a "fist" at night

Anthelia - so you can compare yours to see if it matches. Colors range btw.

Notice the stalk on one of these. Very similar to what I see in your pic.

Yep, There the same. How about the smaller ones in my pic. They are not the same.

Anything I should know about Anthelia?

The smaller one's are xenia. Anthelia is a fast grower and have the potential to take over just like xenia. Mine will catch cyclop-eeze when I feed the tank.

Are they pulsing or pom pom?

What do the xenia look like when the lights go out? Mine ALL curled up into little fists.

That sounds like what mine do...Sometimes they will open back up but they do that and shrink down!!! :)

I have a full batch of the smaller ones and I was told they were called Red sea Pulsating xenia's.. They will spread quickly given good water quality. If they become your tank they can remove the iodine from the water and cause problems.. Dont add Iodine inless you monitor it. Replenishment of this element is carried out generaly with water changes and normal food aditions. They like to be near a current but not in the current.. Ive had luck with any level in the tank altho they seem to prefer mid-top area. Try to pick an area for them and eep they contained in that area.. Pruning will be necessary but with your one stalk starting you wont have to prune for at least 6 months.. Nice for you. The pulsating in my opinion is the eye catcher in my tank and I realy appreciate the movement..
