The tank has been running since May 19. It took about a month to cure the rock and cycle, and after that we started adding fish. I'll update this thread as more creatures are added!

Also, there are more pics in my Album. Thanks for viewing and all comments are appreciated.

Looks nice.. the Fox Face looks a bit skinny... is he eating good or was the LFS not feeding him enough??

Travis, the LFS was feeding him ok, but there was no live rock in the tank with him, and he is still really young. The pictures were taken the first day we got him, and he has been eating well since then. One of our rocks had lots of red plant growth on it, and he took care of it in no time! There is also some seaweed in the tank that he nibbles on frequently, and he actively participates when we feed the chromis, so he should thicken up soon!

I'll try to get a full tank shot up this afternoon....

Here is a full pic of the tank. My camera is not that good, and it doesn't do justice to the live rock; the rock is much more purple in person.

These are closer pictures of the rock. You can see the color much better in these. Each pic is about 1/3 of the tank.

I figured out how to take a better pic of the whole tank.... Color is more true in this one... sorry for the bad pics above

Beautiful! It's amazing how much different things looks when the whole tank is shown. The foxface looks so small compared to the chromis. Either that or those are pretty big chromis. ;)

Thanks for all the great comments! We are loving the tank--laid on the floor and watched the fish for an hour last night.

Sugar Magnolia, the green chromis are really large. The owner of the LFS that Josh used to work for gave them to us out of his show tank. He has been having them for quite a few years. The foxface, which I am assuming is still very young, is about their size. But he's been eating like crazy and has a very nice little belly on him now.

Ocean Singer, no, the tank will be reef with, eventually, lots of corals. We will start buying corals probably in December, depending on how much we have left after I pay my school tuition. We also want to make sure the tank is ready for them.

Our next additions will be in about two weeks. I can hardly wait; I think I've become much more addicted than Josh, and this was all his idea! We are thinking of getting a sea star, a diamond watchman goby, and more crabs and snails. More pics then!

It is looking good and I know that you all want to add stuff but just be patient and don't get what we all seem to get and that is over eager to have a finished product... Go slow adding things and then you will reduce the possibility of creating severe problems...What kind of star are you wanting to get…some don’t do well in a newly established tank so be careful when adding a star!!!

Again really looking good!!!

good luck with that, and may I recogmend a green manderin dragonet, they are some of the most beautiful fish in my mind, and need lots of lr, which you have, I think it would be a perfect edition for you

I wouldn't add a mandarin fish yet...they don't do well in a newly established tank setting...you need time for your pods to populate or you will probably starve the thing to death...But I do agree with OS on the fact that they are a beautiful and interesting fish and one that would make a good addition to your tank...just let your tank establish well first!!! :)

oh yeah, forgot that it was a new tank :) I'd wait about 3 months before adding them here's a good site that tells you a little more about them

The star we are most likely getting is a sand-sifting star. Josh has experience with them, and he really likes them. The Mandarin Dragonet is on our fish list, but he is way at the end. I think they are very beautiful, but we want to start with hardier fish first and give the tank time to mature.

You may hold off for a while on the SSS. They eat the critters in the sandbed, so you'll want to have them there. About the time you're ready for a Mandarin, the sand should be teeming with life too. Good luck to you!

We recently got two new fish, a cardinal and a goby. Here are some pictures of them. We also had to return one of the green chromis, he was attacking all the other fish.

Nice additions! did you have a hard time catching the chromis?

Mel and Josh
07-14-2005, 03:17 PM
Yes, that chromis was SUPER hard to catch. Our plan was to trade in all three, in case the other ones deceided to get mean, but after spending 45 minutes catching the one that was mean, we gave up. The other two are not as bad as the one we took out, but they are not as peaceful as I expected them to be. If they get worse, they will have to be taken out too, but I am dreading that! Perhaps they are acting up because they came from a much larger tank and are used to more space???

Here are some pictures of the tank. The tank is about a year and seven months old now. We are seeing some great coral growth. For example, the birdsnest started off as a tiny 1/2 inch frag and is now branching very nicely. We are also working on our second setup, which will be an anenome tank for a mated pair of black and white clownfish.
