yeah yeah, I know they're mean fish :evil: but, I'm wondering, is the shock they send out electric or just like a jellyfish sting? they look really ugly, but I like their characteristics :) it'd be fun to drop some feeder fish inside the tank and watch them get eaten

Stargazers are very strange fish. Stargazers have the unique ability to produce an electric shock from an organ located between their eyes on the top of their head and they should not be kept in home aquariums.

If I'm not mistaken, you would need a large aquarium without decoration and a very deep sandbed. Depending on the species, you may have to plan for a 14 - 22 inch fish! The fish would bury itself, and until feeding time you would have an empty box of water to look at.

lol, darn then, I knew it would have to be empty, but, I didn't know it would be 14-22 inches :P that's cool :) I don't have that kind of money though

we catch them in freeport sometimes, and i hear they're shock will knock you out, hence star gazer - you'll be on your back, however when you catch them with a fishing pole, all their shocking is out b/c it drains i guess kinda like a battery.

edit::
heres a pretty big one caught off san luis pas pier near Freeport, tx
