My puffer bit my thermometer and broke it, what ever was in it is now in my water ,its the red kind and some one told me that's the alcahol type not the murcury and I should not worry about it, im at work, not much I camn do, my daughter called me and told me she got it out as fast as she could , thinking of buying some poly filters after work, my daughter knows a good amount about fish, she says there not breathing hard, not stressed or acting funny in any way. this happened a few hours ago, what should I do?

Most of the thermometers that go into aquaria today are the alcohol type and not the mercury!! You should be fine....

a small waterchange to siphon out any residue can't hurt. although it'd be completely dispersed/mixed by now.

My local fish store told me poly filters will remove anything that does not belong, they don't cary them but I did find them at another store and they also state it will clean from the water, since this happened hours ago im sure its all mixed in by now, it always seems to happen when i'm no were close to home

The poly filters do clear out contaminates... Wouldn't hurt to use once in a while anyway!!! :)

UPDATE
I added the poly filters in last night as well as bought a digital thermometer that mounts outside the tank with a small probe that goes in the tank (learned my lesson)
According the the filter instructions if there is anything in the water the filter will turn from white to blue and then to black
Well as soon as I put it in it turned blue ,guess I should leave it in a few days
So far I had a puffer eat my thermometer and a triger eat my heater cord

I missed having one so bad I ave up the reef tank and went back to fowlr
This one is cool though, he's about 12 inches long, tank raised
has a very playful and funny personality ,keep small fish in there with him as he wouldnt hurt a fly

Exvisor I have to laugh u think your fish are pigs! I have seahorses one of which is wild caught and only eats those stupid ghost shrimp @ 11 cents a shrimp she eats about 3dozen a day or close to it! Then there is the axolotol I have fw but eats only mealworms eats about 1-2dozen a day and is hand fed! mealworms @ 9cents a peice these guys will break the bank! Not to mention my box fish! tang! and well so many others! I am right there with ya and I used to have a potbellied pig also so I can attest to how an actual pig eats lol glad all is ok! There are thing

oops there are things that u can get to cover the cord that enters your tank that is supposed to help with those issues or you may want to think of something DIY like a small peice of PVC?
