My fire clowns are dying. I think they have itch, but I don't know how!!! I had itch before as some of you might remember, but I waited 30 days before I put any other fish in. I rushed to my LFS to have my water tested, and he said it was perfect.

Nitrites-0
Nitrates-0
Ammonia-0
pH-8.4
Salinity-1.024
My temperature stays at a constant 80*F

I have a fiji devil damsel, and 2 mollies in the tank along with the 2 clowns, and the damsel and the mollies are just fine. The only thing I can think of, is that I got the mollies and damsel from one fish store, while I got the clowns from another. Is this the cause.

Also, (this is VERY emarassing, because you think I would've caught the trend by the second fish that died!) I got a batfish, 2 percs, 1 black boxfish, a kleins butterfly, a yellowtail blue damsel, 2 domino damsels, and a 3 stripe damsel from We Luv Pets, in Marietta Ohio.

R.I.P. to...ALL OF THE ABOVE!

Now, I got...a fiji devil damsel, a curlique anemone, an arrow crab, a pumping xenia, and 2 mollies, from Belpre Aquarium, in Belpre Ohio.

R.I.P. to...NONE OF THE ABOVE!

I just thought I would share this to everyone, and ask you of anything I could say to We Luv Pets manager about their livestock. I just HAVE to say something. Oh, and BTW, I went their one day, and the manager asked how all of my fish were doing. I told him exactly what I told you. He remarked "You must not take very good care of YOUR fish, because they are healthy and happy here..." I had been holding a bag of salt that I was going to buy, and I threw it down on the shelf, and stormed out of the store. Just thought I would share this with you all.

I am quarantining them right now. They look a lot better. They are alert, swimming in nrmal patterns, and the white spots are gone...for now. My LFS has a great big sign above the SW dection that says,"No guarantee on ANY saltwater fish, crab, coral, etc.,". It sucks.

"T" tried this when i suggested it to him and he sayd that the ich was gone like the next day ( if i remember correctly) btw its nothing your doing wrong, your fish arejust stressed out. one more thing, its ich not itch. sry just pointing that out.lol let us know how it goes.

I've never heard of the ginger method. Did you mean garlic?

Thanks on the spelling. I was wondering how to spell it right when I posted. I feed them frozen brine shrimp, emerald entree, beefheart plus, and squid. Right now though, they won't eat anything...I have heard that you can soak them in phytoplankton to get them to eat it. I have phytoplex, will this work if phytoplankton really does that?

Majority of the fish stores in so cal i go to have a policy if the fish dies within like 15 days or something u can bring it back for store credit.

Considering with fish tanks, your always buying new stull (filters, bulbs, food) store credit is just as good as money.

If I were you I would just not shop there anymore.

no i meant ginger. garlic works but its slower. also add a cleaner shrimp to your tank. they eat the parasites.

I have a scarlet skunk cleaner shrimp, but he doesn't eat them. If I feed the fish in my main tank the ginger stuff, will it kill all of the eggs and larvae and everything in there? Or just ON the fish?

You can use garlic and ginger to help boost the immune system of the fish but using them by themselves won't kill the parasite... You will need to use methods that are described here at cf in detail...hypo salinity, copper, etc... those methods are proven to rid fish of ich... I use a kent garlic guard with my normal feeding to help keep the fish at their best but if they would ever get ich I would qt and use the hypo method to treat them for the ich....

Here is a good link to hypo treatment...

I to use Kent garlic gaurd too, to any new fish I add to my tank for about a week, then I tapper down on my useage, garlic works great . but it's like antibiotics to use if used all the time the parasite will build up an immunity to it and will not help after awhile.
then you would have to resort to the hypo method.
