hi all,

can anyone id my new goby? the lfs had him labeled as a white sandsifter goby. sounds generic to me and i couldn't find much using those terms online.

Looks like it could be a sailfin/algae blenny.

It does look a little different, the markings and head especially. Could be him though.

That seems to be some kind of sleeper/diamond goby, very active sandsifter BTW.

I agree with George. It's definitely one of the sleeper gobies.

I have got this fish too. I caught it so I was never told what it was. Does yours change colour depending on what surface it is on? Does it stay close to the bottem and hide a lot? I haven't seen mine sifting any sand yet. I also have two goldhead sleeper gobies and the body shape is exactly the same. Does yours sometimes appear to have clouded eye's? Not like a diesese or anything, more like cave fish and deepwater fish eye's.

Good luck finding a name for this fish, I caught mine in the rock pools in Caloundra, Australia if that is any help.

Also called a sixspot sleeper goby - glad you narrowed it down to the exact species.
