Can anyone name this algae and help me cure this problem. It started after my tank had overflowed and sg droped. All specks are back in the normal range.

It looks like a type of hair algae.

Here are my current water specks
PH 8.1
Alk 13.5
Calc 410
Nitrate .9
Nitrite .2
Ammonia .1

I have also started running carbon to see if that helps.

I believe my bio filtration was comprimized when my tank had overflowed.

could be...sent the tank into a state of flux....same thing happened when my heater failed in december...also got some subsequent algae blooms...

as for the type in your picture, I'm not sure what it is...so many different kinds out there...

Where is this algae popping up? Sandbed, rocks?

I'm not sure what species it is, but I suspect once your tank gets its parameters back on track (ammonia and nitrite) the algae will start to clear up. Kind of like a little mini-cycle. Have you done any water changes? That may help get the parameters in check, as will skimming.

I kinda have to agree with you there Nikki I have been doing about 5 gallons a week since it has happened and it seems to be slowly going away. Emphasis on SLOWLY.

My current specks now are
PH 8.1
Alk 12.1 dkh
Calcium 350
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Amm 0

I think the worse is over now and I hope I can get this nasty stuff out of my tank.

I sure hope so Brad. I'm dealing with some cyano in the cube right now too. Very frustrating!
