We finally got a Pistol Shrimp for our Red Banded Goby. To my amazement, they found each other in one night.

JmusicB, some gobys and pistol shrimps have symbolic relationship. The shrimp digs the home and does the house work and the goby stands watch for the shrimp... first sign of trouble the goby retreats into the hole and the shrimp follows.

Thanks Conni, I have wanted to for a while also but have just found a good pistol. I still haven't been able to get a pic of the both of them but I'm working on it...

cich1, you may want to try a different goby... from what I understand not all gobys will pair with all pistols.

i had a ywg and now i have a pinkspot watchman, i don't think the problem is with the gobies i think it may just be the pistol, i can't remember the name of him but he came with some florida keys lr so he maybe just naturally doesn't bond with a shrimp or perhaps its because they come from different oceans

You're probably right. The Alpheus soror doesn't usually form a relationship with gobys... I sure there are many other species that do not also.

Here is a photo of mine - they have been cohabitating for about 5 months. As long as my son doesn't run up to the tank, the goby isn't too shy.
