I made 13 liverocks today out of king vinnies crushed oyster shell/cement technique, by the time summer starts, they should be ready. I also went to some tidepools and got 1 hermit crab (all I could find) and 2 tiger cowry shells (about 2/3" :P tiny) I'm gonna get one 3" later, I would have got some brittle stars too, but I didn't have time cause my sister had to go babysitting, tomarow I'm gonna get some brittle stars, more hermit's and whatever else I can find

Cowrie's are nocturnal creatures by nature. During the day they generally are found under rocks or resting on soft corals, and at night they will forage for food. In the reef aquarium the live rock provides a good environment where they can graze on algae and diatoms growing there. Although they are mainly herbivorous, when they get larger, they might try and feed on your sponges and some of your soft corals!!! :)

oh, I know they're nocturnal and stuff, thanks, I'll put the old ones back in the ocean and get new ones when they get too big, how big do you think they'll be before they start feeding on soft corals?

When ever they get to eating the soft coral they are too big!! :) Really just depends on the cowrie!! :)

Ocean Singer, you may want t o check out your states harvesting laws to make sure you aren't taking anything from the wild that is prohibited from being collected. (wouldn't want Mr Park Ranger sneaking up on you while you are collecting. :D)

As long as you have plenty of algae in the tank for the cowries to graze on they will be fine, but keep in mind that if there's not enough for them to graze on they will slowly starve to death.
