I just bought a some live rock and on it is a small anemone. The base of it is brown and it is attached to the underside of the of the rock. The tentacles are clear with darker tips. The wierd thing is it is only open at night. The rest of the time it it closed up. None of my other inhabitants seem to be bothered or bother it. It is pretty small, closed it is about 3/8" wide by about the same high. When open it expands to maybe an inch including the tentacles. Sorry no pics... Any thoughts?

If it isn't aiptasia, it will be nearly impossible to identify it for you without a picture of it.

Any thoughts

Kill them... asap. Using a syringe you can get boiling water and "cook" the aiptasia, then suck out the flesh with the syringe. There are many ways, this is my just favorite...

Keep in mind that they can reproduce asexually so any piece of flesh that remains alive in the system (on the rocks, etc) can become another aiptasia. They can become a problem if they are left to reproduced... or if they are torn apart when you are trying to remove them. This is why I like using boiling water... if you do it right, anything that remains is dead.
