I'm not referring to that creepy guy from your LFS, I'm talking about Salt Creep in our aquaria.

Do you have a salt creep problem or have you ever had one?

How do or did you battle salt creep?
>Did you use any chemicals or remedies or other products?
>>If so, which one(s)?

How do or did you prevent salt creep?

I think that it looks kinda cool in certain areas- def. not on my lights or pump but brimming the pumps and stuff- it makes me htink that my saltwater is a little ecosystem and is working properly. lol- that may or may not be right but thats what I think. :-D

Yes

I merely wipe down my lights every few days.
I haven't used any chemicals, or remedies, or other products to aid in the prevention of salt creep.

As far as I know, there isn't a way to prevent salt creep, you can slow it down, but never stop it, as its caused by evaporation and splashing of water. So if you want to slow it down, you can decrease temperature slightly and make a mod for your HOB Skimmer, or HOB Filter, whatever is causing the water to splash.

i get alot of saltcreep on cables and plumbing in the sump but very little from the main tank, i just wipe it off from time to time. i find that if i leave the cabinet doors closed on the sump it really don't bother me at all

bigfoot,

There is no way to eliminate salt creep, as its merely evaporation and splashing. Maybe that product makes it easier to clean up, and it will wipe up, or maybe it does just what it says, prevents rust and corrosion.

ya I have a sponge and a sos type pad(no soap of course) that is just for the tank. I get it wet with some hot water and wipe down anything that needs it. I don't have a huge problem with it though. If you have something you can't reach like small equipment or something you could soak it in vinegar and water.

I get a bit of salt under the bulkheads under the overflow. Some salt also collects on the walls where the outflow of skimmer hits the wall. I just wash that off when I do top-off.

How do or did you battle salt creep?
I just scratch it off.

How do or did you prevent salt creep?
I probably didn't glue the tubing together tightly enough, and there may be some leaking between the bulkhead seal and the glass.

Have you notice......lately a lot of manufactures are .... " Sealing the Top Trim " on the tanks ( in-side edge ) with a bead of silocone.... that will be a barrier , to stop any moisture from building underneath the Trim......... cw.
