I am sorry Hip died. I know how you feel 'cause I recently lost a hippo also. Did you remove the algae or the dead coral from the hospital tank?
How big was Hip? Mine was very small. If you were to get another small hippo, I would make an exception to the rule of placing a dead coral in the quarantine tank. Hippos are usually found hiding in acroporas and other bushy corals in the wild. Since they are small, I think, it would be more beneficial to have some sort of dead bushy coral in the quarantine tank for them to feel comfortable.
Don't get me wrong, I advicate that having a bare bottom tank is very good for maintenance, but there are always exception to the rule.
Just my two cents. :)

Yea I should have just left it alone for a while bc she had it so bad- poor little hip she was super super super small- I swear about the size of my thumbnail when I got her and she grew quick- I think she did bc she was happy when she died she was about three thumbnails. I always thought if I lost her- it would be to overindulgence- you could always always see the button algea sticking out of her tummy bc she hate so much of it. Not to mention she and Purp were best friends.
